At The Union Presbyterian Church
"We were impressed with knowledge of the masonry restoration process and the attention to detail shown throughout the process. This was particularly noted in the color matching of the mortar used for the brick and in the matching of the overall appearance of the repaired foundation to the original. We would highly recommend Preserve A Stone and James Kohl for restoration work on historical buildings. James Kohl and his associate went beyond the scope of work proposed by other contractors yet completed the job at a competitive price. The more obvious deficiencies of loose mortar and brick were addressed on all sides of the structure with care taken to match mortar appearance to the original. In addition, a missing lintel was installed, the stone foundation was tuck pointed to a depth of about 12 inches below ground level and a missing chimney cap was installed. The work was done in a timely and professional manner. The small sculpture made from left over stone and historical artifacts unearthed around the foundation was a nice touch."

Recommendation from First United Presbyterian Church of Mumford, New York 14511
In the spring of 2014 we noticed a crack in the top portion of our steeple. And because our church is constructed of rare bog limestone, we knew it was not a job for amateurs. We did some research and decided to speak with James kohl of Preserve A Stone. When we met with James, he was very knowledgeable and confident. Within the next few days he did an inspection and assessment of our church’s condition, gave us a detailed quote and answered all of our questions. He also gave us a date of when he could begin work. We gave him the OK.
Here is summary of the work that James and his crew did.
Foundation: 100% removal of mortar joints around perimeter 12 to 18 inch depth below grade. Cleaned areas of debris, and relayed any stone where needed, including side walls of two entrances. The beaded mortar joints matched original style perfectly.
Steeple repoint: This was an important repair. James needed a 60 foot boom lift for the outside repair. The inside steeple repair was a little tricky. Because of the steep angle of the roof, it was a very tight squeeze. But the repair was made and it looks great. They made all necessary restorations to ensure the original integrity. When they were through, they cleaned out all of the dust and debris.
The detail and quality of the work could not have been better. All of our expectations were met and we will continue to recommend Preserve A Stone to our friends and neighbors.
